When Home Creates Hope
In my TEDx talk, I shared that home is more than a structure. Affordable housing is a hand up and not a handout.
The beautiful potential of having a foundation for stabilizing and launching.
It’s predictability in a world that can be anything but.
I know this from my own childhood.
There were years when our family didn’t have holiday parties, didn’t put up a tree, and forget about even having gifts. The holidays felt … uncertain and disappointing.
And yet, even in those years, I learned how the feeling of safety matters.
Working in housing has taught me that 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐞, 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐨𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞.
Families can focus on school, work, and health.
Parents can plan beyond tomorrow.
Children can grow without learning fear too early.
This season, I’m grateful for the gift of home, the power of opportunity, and the people who work to create both for others. And that's hope for housers!
