We Need More Explorers
What do “explorers” and “affordable housing leaders” have in common?
For starters, both are writing the playbook as they go.
Six years ago, I started a podcast that features conversations with leaders in the affordable housing space.
Every guest - housing authority leaders, bankers, developers, policymakers, technologists, community advocates - is charting new territory in real time.
Each is approaching the affordable housing crisis in this country from a different direction.
After taping 149 episodes, here is what I've found:
► The most effective orgs in affordable housing have stable leadership.
► Those who challenge conventional thinking and take risks are the most successful.
► Nearly everyone is frustrated by the complexity and length of the process.
► Every day we are busting through myths about who housing is for.
► Communities are starting to be more open to affordable housing in their backyards than we think.
Every breakthrough in this industry started with someone who had the audacity to act ... even before someone charted the path forward.
The housing crisis doesn't need more caution.
It needs more explorers.
People willing to go the path less travelled.
