Self-Preservation

As leaders, we often focus on driving results, meeting deadlines, and pushing for excellence. But every so often, we’re reminded that the most meaningful work emerges when we make space for creativity, reflection, and self-care.

Recently, I challenged an employee to build a "creative day" into their schedules. I encouraged her to carve out time for activities that bring joy and allow their minds to wander—whether that’s drinking tea by a window, visiting a plant store, or reading at a cozy café. My intention was to remind her that, amidst the constant demands of work, it’s vital to take time for self-preservation.

And my employee truly embraced the challenge!  And she sent me a photo with her feet up at a coffee table, fully in the moment, embodying the essence of what I hoped to inspire. It wasn’t just a casual break; it was a deliberate act of self-care, a commitment to her well-being, and a recognition that sometimes, the best way to move forward is to first pause and recharge.  When we do – we open up space for creativity to flourish, for ideas to flow, and for our best work to emerge.

At Quadel, I am constantly emphasizing the importance of balance—both in our personal lives and in the workplace. I encourage our staff to take time for themselves, to engage in activities that inspire them, and to prioritize their mental and emotional well-being. Because I know that when our team members are at their best, so is our company.
