Reflecting on Legacy

A rose bush

Yes, I admit that I had to put Mother's Day on my work calendar.

In my journey, I've come to realize the importance of cherishing moments with my own family and finding harmony between professional requirements and personal well-being. And it's real-darn-hard to pursue this harmony.

But Mother's Day serves as a reminder to pause, reflect, and appreciate.

These flowers bloom once a year around this time and remind me of my grandmother’s legacy. Her front porch was surrounded by these bright fuchsia peonies and now mine is also. Having raised me for several years, she exhibited acceptance and encouragement. Despite not having access to healthcare, income stability, or relationship support, she survived abuse and trauma. Yet, she exhibited resiliency in a very complicated world.

There’s so much value in learning life lessons of appreciation and reflection, then translating that into 'our day jobs.' This not only enables us to exhibit compassion and empathy but also enriches our interactions and contributions in the workplace.

What are you learning and reflecting on this Mother's Day weekend?

P.S. I've requested homemade brownies for the day.
