From Parkour to Policy
My oldest son has a special talent for testing the very edges of my patience as a mom.
Kayaking in creeks where there are alligators.
Starting a school project at 10 PM the night before itโs due.
High drama stunts in parkour, running, climbing, and vaulting.
He has to "stick" the landing, or its off to the hospital to treat a broken bone.
๐๐ญ๐ข๐๐ค ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐ฅ๐๐ง๐๐ข๐ง๐ means finishing strong. Steady, grounded, arms up with confidence.
I'm a leader in the affordable housing space.
When I'm speaking to people who aren't in my world, but I want them to care, I have to "stick" the landing or else they walk away detached.
So, I present my framework:
โถ๏ธ Affordable housing can be an abstract concept for those whose lives are unaffected. That's why, I tell ๐ฉ๐๐จ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐จ๐ซ๐ข๐๐ฌ.
People like Galiano Tiramani, who co-founded Boxabl in 2017 and is revolutionizing housing with foldable, factory-built modular homes.
โถ๏ธ Separate ๐๐๐๐ญ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฆ ๐๐ข๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง.
Thereโs a long-standing myth that bringing in lower-cost housing will make neighborhoods less desirable or less safe and reduce home prices. But the research consistently shows that well-designed, well-managed affordable housing does not decrease property values and in some cases, it improves.
โถ๏ธ ๐๐ฌ๐ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐ฏ๐จ๐ข๐๐ to keep affordable housing top of mind.
In 2024, I did a TEDxTalk and it changed one person's mind in Brooklyn about the affordable housing going up in her backyard. I'm a product of someone like her who said 'yes' to such a project.
A framework helps my son 'land' that jump when he's defying gravity.
A framework helps me speak to people who don't understand affordable housing.
What ways are you finding to "stick the landing?"
