Clearing the Way Home

The apartment was ready.
Fresh paint. Clean floors. Empty rooms. New kitchen appliances.

I walked through with an inspection checklist, testing smoke detectors, checking outlets, noticing handrails.

Just another inspection.
Or so it could have been.

Then I thought about the family waiting.

Maybe they'd spent weeks calling landlords before finally finding someone to accept their voucher. Maybe they were sleeping on a relative's couch waiting for the keys.

They couldn't move in until this inspection was complete.
In that moment, the checklist looked different.

That's why the best inspectors don't just look for deficiencies.
They remember they're helping clear the final hurdle between uncertainty and home.

Compliance and compassion were never meant to compete.
