Sharing the Microphone

Recently I was at a major executive table and later needed to apologize to my project lead.

Too much coffee. Up all night.
Too many details. Micro focused.
Schedule too tight.

In my eagerness to get through the agenda, I had unintentionally crowded out space for others to contribute.

I hadn’t shared the microphone enough. It was a moment where efficiency and empowerment collided.

Leadership isn’t just about driving outcomes … it’s about designing space.

𝐀 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐈’𝐦 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫:
- Set the direction, not every step
- Create space before filling it
- Listen for what’s not being said
- Watch for contribution, not control

The goal isn’t to be the most prepared or efficient voice.

It’s to make the room better.

And maybe. Just maybe. Go easy on the Joe.
