Necessity Created Audacity

Some of the biggest decisions in my career? Confidence didn’t drive them.
Necessity did.

Knowing I needed health insurance for my family.
Knowing the financial insecurity I accepted as a child, was not going to be the insecurity I hand to my children.

Sure, the fear of failing was a really loud voice.
But each step felt like the next right thing to do.

I've come to think that's what audacity actually is.
Not fearlessness. Not bravado.
𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲.

Usually, it's because 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬.
It's the thing I've relied on most.
And the thing I've watched the women I admire get called "too much" for.

What I now know is that the steps that scared me most ... taught me the most:
- having an affordable place to live is a “hand up, not a handout”
- the person who said yes to housing my siblings and I changed the trajectory of all of our lives
- homelessness is a moment in time. It’s not a forever identity. Why? Because I am living proof. I’m CEO today.
