Grace-Filled Grit
Growing up with early trauma and not always having a stable place to live - a lot of %@&$ happened.
And while every book says adversity builds resilience, that doesnโt make todayโs hard moments feel any easier.
In her book โGritโ, Angela Duckworth makes an important distinction: โItโs not adversity alone, but ๐ก๐จ๐ฐ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ ๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐ฉ๐จ๐ง๐ to it that shapes grit.โ
She breaks it down further:
โจ Grit grows with support - from mentors, family, community.
โจ It takes ๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ญ๐ช๐ฃ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ข๐ต๐ฆ ๐ฑ๐ณ๐ข๐ค๐ต๐ช๐ค๐ฆ - not just enduring pain, but building toward something.
โจ And itโs powered by passion and perseverance - the long game.
Hereโs my take on ๐ก๐จ๐ฐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐ญ๐ก๐๐ญ ๐ ๐ซ๐ข๐ญ when things go sideways:
โก๏ธ A bad decision doesnโt define you. Itโs a chapter, not the whole book.
โก๏ธ You ๐ข๐ณ๐ฆ gifted. Claim that.
โก๏ธ Your past? Use it as fuel, not as a limitation.
Iโve learned to guide my kids with patience - teaching, nudging, helping them grow. Many parents have probably learned the same.
But are ๐๐ giving ourselves that ๐ฌ๐๐ฆ๐ ๐ ๐ซ๐๐๐?
Can I use that mothering tone on ๐ฎ๐ฆ - with compassion, correction, and maybe a few โoh no you didnโtโ moments?
Thatโs the kind of grit Iโm practicing now. And maybe you are too.
