Audacity Isn’t a Country Club Membership
The book is titled Audacity. And here’s why:
We talk about audacity like it’s a personality trait. Some people have it. While others don't. But treating audacity like something you're born with makes it like a country club membership. You're either in … or you're out.
I lived in a tent as a kid. We were homeless.
I had to build Audacity. I wasn’t born with it.
Now I ask uncomfortable questions. I challenge a process everyone hates but accepts. I'm used to saying out loud, "There has to be a better way."
Today, I interview leaders on my Forbes Quadel Changemakers podcast. You know what I've found?
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐮𝐝𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧'𝐭 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬.
𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐲'𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠.
Willing to act ... even on incomplete information.
Willing to believe better is possible ... before they have proof.
Audacity isn’t a nice-to-have. It’s leadership infrastructure.
So, the question isn't whether you have it.
I've spent the past year writing a book about how to build it, and it's coming out this fall.
